Outline of the history of COS OPO Wałcz

The center began its activities in 1949. It was created on the basis of a small sports facility, destroyed during the war, located in a forest glade - in a place distant from Wałcz by 2.5 km (called "Bukowina"). The pitch and the running track were reconstructed for the needs of the local sports club. The first manager and later director was Mr. Piotr Madziński, who was the initiator of its creation. The official opening took place in 1950. The center has gained importance since the coach of the national athletics team, Jan Mulak, was looking for a place located far from the hustle and bustle of big cities, in a forest and with a mild climate. The choice fell on Wałcz. At the beginning of its activity the center belonged to the sports association "Spójnia Warszawa". The first training camp for first league basketball and volleyball teams as well as for the national athletics team took place in the inaugural year. In 1953 the national team of canoeists came to Walcz, and in 1962 the national team of rowers. Due to the specific natural shape of the surface of Raduń Lake, watermen took a special liking to this place for training and to this day regularly come to our Center calling this place their second home. Since the beginning of its establishment, undergoing various structural changes in Polish sport, the Centre has hosted and provided its base to excellent athletes, Polish and foreign.

From here the athletes of the national team of various disciplines set off for the Olympic Games, European Championships, World Championships and competitions of lesser importance. In order to meet the needs and requirements of professional sportsmen, the training, rehabilitation, biological regeneration and medical facilities are constantly modernized. The center has been established for training in professional sports, especially water sports, but athletes of other disciplines are also very willing to use our services. Among others with them in mind, the residents of Walcz and tourists in the Centre was built a modern indoor swimming pool. In the time free from sport groups we make our base available also for people not connected with sport. We are visited by holidaymakers, organise camps, winter camps, holidays for children and young people, conferences, meetings, trainings, integration games and plays, etc. The COS-OPO Walcz catering facilities offer tasty meals prepared in our own kitchen from the highest quality products. In the nearest future we would like to extend the hotel base, which would allow us to accommodate more people in the summer time. We are modernizing the already existing accommodation base. Walcz - Bukowina is a wonderful beech woods, fresh air, clean and beautifully situated lake, a perfect place to relax and practice sports, both amateur and professional.
